Two days before the 5th International Multidisciplinary Course on Iron Anemia, we close our insights with another branch of medicine that will be discussed during the two days of the conference: nephrology.<\/p>\n

A study published in the Italian Journal of Nephrology (Diagnosi e trattamento dell\u2019anemia sideropenica in pazienti con CKD non-dialitica, G Ital Nefrol 2013; 30,6) demonstrated that half of the Italian nephrologists are unsatisfied with the available iron therapy and that the difficulty in managing therapy together with the limits of the structure are perceived as barriers to the prescription of intravenous iron therapy.<\/p>\n

Professor Sandro Barni, Director of the Oncology Department of the Polyclinic of Treviglio (BG) and president of the conference, now tells us about the last macro-subject that will be discussed during the next few days.<\/p>\n

After last year\u2019s break nephrology is back: what\u2019s new? Why is it still crucial to treat anemia in patients with kidney diseases?<\/p>\n

\u00abThis year nephrology is the protagonist again. Kidney, erythropoietin and anemia: they are all interlinked. Anemia is a frequent complication of chronic renal insufficiency (CRI) and it may depend on an inadequate erythropoietin production and\/or on iron deficiency, as a result of inadequate intestinal absorption and mobilization from the deposits. Iron deficiency has an estimated prevalence ranging from 25 to 70% in patients with CRI. Almost all patients with renal disease develop some form of chronic anemia during their lives, often using erythropoietin. \u00bb<\/p>\n

What are the benefits of treating these patients with oral sucrosomial\u00ae iron?<\/p>\n

“Also in this field, new formulations such as sucrosomial\u00ae iron go ahead of the old formulations of iron. There are already several published studies and our nephrologist colleagues will talk about it during the conference”<\/p>\n

With these considerations we close our insights on the four subjects that will be covered during the conference on May 31 and the April 1 at the Hotel Metropole in Florence: Patient Blood Management (PBM) as a holistic approach to the management of blood resources, anemia in oncology – the \u201coriginating\u201d discipline of the disease; cardiology as relatively new branch of medicine in this subject matter; nephrology, where iron deficiency anemia is a frequent complication of chronic renal failure.<\/p>\n

Tomorrow more than 300 doctors from all around the world will participate to the conference providing additional clinical evidences obtained in Italy and abroad with sucrosomial\u00ae iron: there will be 28 abstracts presented as posters and 20 speakers including 5 Spanish, 2 Greek, 1 Portuguese and 1 German.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
