Plant-based phytosterols

ULTRASTEROL® is a proprietary functional ingredient based on plant-based phytosterols, developed by Pharmanutra Ingredients for nutraceutical and food applications dedicated to balancing lipid metabolism. It is an innovative complex designed to make phytosterols usable in a wide range of matrices, overcoming the technological limitations typical of traditional forms.

The ULTRASTEROL® formulation

ULTRASTEROL® is obtained through a microencapsulation process that allows free phytosterols to be encapsulated within a maltodextrin-based matrix, making the ingredient water-dispersible. This technology makes it possible to transform a class of naturally water-insoluble compounds into a functional ingredient that can be easily incorporated into foods, beverages and nutraceutical formulations, significantly expanding its application potential.

The phytosterols in ULTRASTEROL® are exclusively of plant origin and derived from pine – a choice that avoids the use of sources such as soy and ensures an allergen-free profile.

Nutritional role of phytosterols

Phytosterols are compounds of plant origin characterised by a chemical structure similar to that of cholesterol. Due to this structural similarity, phytosterols are of nutritional interest due to their mechanism of interaction in the intestine, where they can compete with dietary cholesterol in absorption processes.

ULTRASTEROL® is developed as a functional ingredient for formulations requiring a controlled and technologically manageable intake of phytosterols, in compliance with current regulations.
